Windows 10 Release Date Announced
July 29th appears to be the release date for Windows 10.
You may notice an update notification down in the lower right corner of your screen by the clock (if you currently have Windows 7 or 8) that could have started appearing yesterday, June 1. Clicking on this will lead to you to register for the update when it becomes available. Keep in mind that doing this will treat the Windows 10 install as an automatic update on July 29, so consider whether or not you want this on your current machine. Just because your computer has Windows 7, for example, doesn't mean it is a good idea to put 10 on it. For example, several laptops come here for service that have Windows 7 installed that are at least 8 years old. While the operating system works and all of the drivers are loaded, the manufacturer's website may not offer drivers for it beyond Windows Vista. We won't know until the release date how Windows 10 will perform on older machines. It might also be a wise idea for you to "clone" your hard drive as it exists with Windows 7 or 8 in case you wish to revert back to it later.
The Windows 10 install is offered free of charge from Microsoft, however, if you wish for us to assist you in this process we would charge our standard fee of $69 for operating system install.
